Samuel
Andreyev
(b. 1981, Kincardine) is a Canadian-born composer
and oboist. Following early studies on the violin as a child, he quickly
became fascinated with everything to do with sound and spent many years
experimenting with any and all instruments and recording equipment he
could get his hands on. Later on he studied cello, composition and oboe
at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In 2003 he moved to Paris,
where he has studied composition, oboe, analysis and orchestration at
the Conservatoire de Sevran.
Andreyev's compositions have been performed, recorded and broadcast
throughout Europe and North America. Among his works are a Flute Sonata
(2001); a Wind Trio (2001); Seven Songs for baritone, cello and piano
(2003); PHP for heckelphone and two pianos (2003); Music with no Edges
for
clarinet, percussion, viola, cello and double bass (2004) and Chanson
Impossible for flute (2004).
In addition to the above, he has released three CDs of peculiar, elaborately
orchestrated songs on the Torpor Vigil Industries label. The last of
these, Songs of Elsewhere (2002) was the subject of an hour-long
interview with Bill Richardson on CBC radio. As an oboist, he has performed
orchestral, chamber and contemporary music; he also plays the heckelphone.
